44-40 Model 1866 Yellowboy
Sporting Rifle

Capacity: 13+1 (bbl 24-1/4")
200 - 225 grain   .427 - .429 diameter bullet

The 44-40 hanging out with some pretty good company today.

50 yds 30-30 130g @ 2500 fps w/$300 Leupold
50 yds 44-40 225g cast @ 1125 fps w/Iron Sights

50 yds .270 Win 90g Moly coated 90g @ 3250 fps w/9X Scope

I'd say the "66" held it's own.
Not being a fool, I'm going to run downstairs and load up a hundred of those 225's before I start playing with the 200's. BTW, the 225 cast bullet load used less than 6 grains of Hodgdon's TiteGroup powder. The .270 load used 59 grains of IMR 4350. 100 of the Speer 90 grain TNT Moly bullets cost $16.00. The Laser Cast 225's cost ~ $8.00 for 100.

Do the math.
